So I have a few devices (especially smart tags) that use these.
From what I gather the rechargeables are not great.

Does anyone have any first hand knowledge or brands that are any good? Or is it best to avoid?

As a generalisation non-rechargeable CR2032s have much higher capacity, much lower self-discharge and much higher shelf life than rechargeable.

I've never had any problems with Duracell coin cell batteries aside from the odd one leaking if left in storage for several years.
