Is there anything wrong with charging batteries that are not completely dead? I just got my new camera and want the batteries fully charged for a days photoing but the batteries are half charged at the moment, any harm from putting them on charge?

from the sites ive read no it isnt, but they reccommend you to fully wear out the battey and give a proper charge every so often.

Depends what type they are. NIMH - you can just top up, but make sure you use a Delta Peak charger. With NICD you want to discharge them to 1.1v a cell, then charge them. Again with a delta peak. Don't use a timed charger as it'll overcharge them.

I use a Ansmann Energy 16 and it shuts off when the cell is charged, it also charges cells individually.

The older Ni-Cd batteries did suffer from the memory effect , so you had to really discharge them before re-charging them . But, with NMH you can just top up without doing any damage.Try to buy the max amperage , I think mine are 2300ma and keep a spare set when your out and about.I use a USB charger on my PC , this can charge 4 AA batteries when I'm working at my PC, I also have a solar battery pack , I can charge two at a time with this when I'm out and about .Nothing worse than missing that SHOT just as the batteries start to fail !

Always best to run them flat and recharge. They have a longer life that way.

Ni-Cd yes

Ni-MH not necessary

Li-ion running them flat will probably damage the battery.
