recipe advice - pork shoulder in a slow cooker

Cumin normally forms a big part of Mexican recipes that I've seen and tried so would definitely have that in there.

Something like, Cumin, Smoked Paprika, a herb of some sort, probably Oregano, Onion powder, Garlic powder, some sort of chilli (Chipotle is my personal preference however not sure if that's authentic, could always substitute for a normal chilli powder), maybe a bit of Cayenne and finally salt and pepper.

The Serious Eats carnitas are actually amazing. I've done the regular version and the sous-vide version. Both incredible. I'd highly recommend buying some nice corn tortillas, tomatillos salsa (because you can't find fresh tomatillos anywhere in this country) and doing that instead of a whole joint. It's immense.

Failing that just use the seasoning he does^.

There's some others here which I haven't tried; https://www.seriouseats.com/2014/10/mexican-braises-stews-autumn-pork-beef.html
