So I was told my Evo X was a cat B due to the water/sewage damage and I could not have the car back even to stick in a garage as a bit of a track weapon and never put it on the road again.
A couple of nights ago I receive an email with a link to my old car, It is now being sold as a cat D as the salvage company that have it have dried it out

Anyone spread any light on this ?
Insurance company have told me (woman on the phone) that in 37 years she has never seen this and apparently the drying out can happen but not well enough to give the car back to the policy holder

Thanks
Luke

I bet if you do a HPi check,it will still come up as a CAT B. Cat B can be put back on the road if it is subjected to a VIC check by VOSA but it will be worthless in the eyes of the insurance.

Car went with all mods on it and I was paid out accordingly

I was told by insurance company it was a cat b never to be returned to the road and now its with copart and they have apparently spent the money drying it out to get it reclassed as a cat D. If I was offered it back as a cat B I would have jumped at the chance for a really cheap Evo x for a track toy :(

well that's a bit of a pooper :( I would take out on you insurance company. Seeing as they told you that it was a cat D and wouldn't let you keep the car or remove the upgrades.

I thought Cat B meant it could be stripped for undamaged spares but the chassis/shell had to be crushed and that it could not be returned to the road....?

Just had a nosey around and apparently it isn't illegal to return a Cat B to the road. However, if an insurer writes off as Cat B and takes possession of the vehicle it should be processed as stated (ABI guidelines or some such) but if the owner retains the vehicle is can be repaired, VIC'd and returned to the road.

Hmm, and the same code of practice states that data entered into the MIAFTR database cannot be removed and recategorisation can only take place in exceptional circumstances.
Something dodgy going on imo.

Apparently, ABI guidlines arent the LAW as such, so there have been cases of VOSA simply doing a VIC check on a CATB and hey presto its back on the road. Obviously assuming its MOT'd, its not illegal, but it will be worthless in the eyes of the insurance if you do have a prang etc.

Have Copart just simply listed it as a CATD? HPI check will more than likely show its a CATB.

looking at the car i am amazed they got it working  and they have head unit and and dash working  100% talk to insurance as you could have brought that back.

Get on the blower to them asap.
contact ombudsman if they're being asses.
how much are copart asking btw?

Not well enough to give it back to the owner? But well enough to give it to someone that doesnt know its part submarine?
That's ridiculous.

If you are at all intyerested in getting it back I'd be asking them to contact the salvage guys and get it back

I heard someone somewhere and I am probably remembering this wrong due to crap memory after brain operation lol, that it would have been 10% of the payout and if it was then put to a cat d easily looking at the fact the car looks no different bar a few marks and split in the splitter I could have had it back on the road for peanuts

Yeah when I killed mine it was I think 10/5/2 scaling d/c/b or something.

You gonna give a bash at getting it back?
I'd move fast if you are.

Do you have a link to the ad for it now?

Something dodgy going on, by definition a Category B car must never return to the road and the body shell must be crushed.

This.

You can't reclassify an insurance write off, you can appeal the assessors decision, but they are highly unlikely to change it even if they are wrong.

So they don't care that was apparantly a Cat B Car is being put back on the road?
By their "approved" Salvage but... wonder what an HPI check would show?
