So I currently have this system which recently fried its self thanks to Windows Vista constantly locking up (vista fanboys stay away)

I'm looking for a fast but cheapish C2D system.

Currently

ABit AN8 32X (now fried)
AMD Althon x64 2 4400+
X1800XT 512
OCZ 1024 PC3200 Platinum Ed 2-3-2-5 x2
Enermax 500 Watt Liberty

I wanna switch over replacing as little as poss.
I see a lot of people getting good results from a
"Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)"

I'm basically thinking CPU, Mobo, Memory

How will the E6600 compare to my current AMD 4400+ ?

Motherboard: The Intel P35 chipset is the best to go for motherboard wise. I've had an Abit IP35 and Gigabyte with them (and an Abit with the previous 965 chipset) and they have all been very good. Best to read up on which is suitable for you, but you can't go too far wrong really.

Processor wise I wouldn't really recommend the E6600, as you can get the Q6600 for just a bit more. Either pay more for the Q6600 or go for a more budget chip, e.g. E2160 and overclock it :) Either will woop your A64.

Memory, again can't go too wrong just get some decent DDR2 667. I've got Corsair but Gibbo rates the Cruical Ballistix well for overclocking.

Hope that helps.

Sorry I actually did mean the
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)

Didn't see there was a E and Q.

So How much more faster and able is the Q6600 over the one I have? Is there any charts or user experience I can go off to get a undestanding if its a worth while upgrade?
I won't be overclocking so just good fast solid memory is good enough for me.

Also

What can I get price wise for (2nd hand)
"Abit AN8-32X
"AMD x2 64 4400+
"OCZ 1024 PC3200 Platinum Ed 2-3-2-5 x2
