After gaming for 30 years (since I was about 5 years old)

I am sure I have RSI in my fingers, they get worse when I play a game now

so I need to change my keyboard for a softer one

Is there such a thing?

Thanks for your help

I am not sure if those are going to help me, I think I will still be hitting the keyboard at the same rate/hardness so I will be in the same situation, I could be wrong through

yes, but I have no idea what the differences are etc, they look all the same to me

OK, I'll try to be a bit more helpful. :D

I`ve recently bought a mechanical keyboard with brown switches.

Brown switches are often described as being the best "all round" mechanical switches. Decent for gaming and typing. I'll try to describe my experience as best as I can.

The keyboard I'm typing on (Corsair K70 RGB with brown switches) has a very "light" feel to the keys - it doesn't take much force to press and register the keystrokes. There is a slight "bump" in the key action, which gives subtle feedback that the key has been pressed. If you press the keys hard they bottom out which does give the keyboard a "hard feel". However, you don't need to press the keys hard to register, and you don't need to press the keys all the way down. It's just down to your typing style, which you can alter with a bit of practice (I'm purposely not hitting the keys so hard at the moment, and the keyboard does actually feel a bit different to how it does when I hit the keys a little harder). One thing that would certainly make this (or any other) mechanical keyboard feel "softer", is the fitting of O rings. These can be fitted under the key caps of each key to help soften the impact of bottoming out key presses. This can help reduce the noise of each key press.

After using this keyboard for a few weeks, I can confirm that brown switches are good all rounders, although I haven't used it for playing any games. It is very nice to type on, and I imagine it would be good for playing games.

Red keys are certainly the popular choice for gaming, but red keys are often described as being not so good for typing on.

I have tried blues keys, and they seem even better for typing, but they are more "clicky", and I thought that the noise would be too much, so the quieter brown keys were the best compromise.

Hope that helps.

Recently made the switch from a Razer Lycosa to a K70 with Red Switches and I love it to bits! Really nice quality, looks the part and a joy to use whether it's gaming or typing.

I used to get RSI in my left hand often when playing games. I thought that this might have been because of the cramped nature of pressing all the keys on a keyboard so I picked up a Logitech G13. Within a week my left hand was no longer hurting and 7 years down the line I have never had RSI since.

Unfortunately it seems that the G13 isn't USB3 compatible and it's not working on my new PC so I'm going to have to get it replaced with something newer at some stage.

that's interesting, thanks for that

when I went to the big computer store

I tried out all the keyboards they had on show, and only 1 actually felt better than the others for my fingers
it was a Logitech K750
http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/k750-keyboard?crid=26

not paying that silly price for all the wireless stuff I do not need, just need to see if they do a cheaper model without all the extras..

I have just bought a Logitech K120 (same as the K750 I tried but without all the goodies) for peanuts (£7 ish) so I'll see how that goes, but in the meantime I am down on that list for the keyboard sample, so ill see how it all feels and get the right one for me

Tried blacks and reds. Preferred the latter for gaming. But unfortunately the strike pro I git disconnects a lot. Not sure if its a problem with the keyboard or my system but if buying a new kb ill go with reds again.

top of the gaming peripheral section you posted this in.

big keyboard guide. explains everything you need to know.

well bugger me, I hadn't seen that to be honest

I thought I posted in the "Peripheral" section, I didn't realise there was a gamming specific one now

Thanks for the heads up I will have a read
