2 Gig crucial pc2 8500 cl5 borrowed until can afford 4 gig
But stuck on motherboard have been looking at abit ip35 will this board be ok can some one recommend another some over clocking.

Thanks

The Abit IP35 is highly recommended.

But you might want to wait a couple of weeks til we see how the new P45 based boards are fareing.

Yeah but people are buying them already and the internet moves fast so you will soon find out which are the best/have problems etc.

I seriously wouldn't buy a p35 today as you might be gutted to find for the same money you could have had a faster, better p45 board all for the sake of a week or so.

But if you must, then I recommend the ABit IP35pro 100%.

Thanks for the advice it is difficult to decide, looking for a board which is reliable and future proof, i have just seen this weeks offer on ip35 pro xe is there much of difference this and the pro. Also this weeks offer on asus p5q p45 have you any thoughts or seen any reviews yet.

as far as we know the only difference between the Pro XE & the Pro is "official" 1600fsb CPU support & black coloured instead of copper coloured heatsinks.

Thats a cracking price for that board. I think it was £120+ a few weeks ago but everybody is dropping the price of the p35 boards due to the p45 coming out to replace them

The Ip35pro is tried and tested and gives great overclocking results. But the worry is the p45 replacement may do even better.

If you goggle the asus board you will find some reviews and so far Asus is coming out tops but that is only between 2 or 3 makers and there are lots and lots not tested yet.

I would seriousy wait a week and read up about p45 boards on the net. You will soon get the idea whether they are any good/problems etc.

reliable and future proof
As far as i know the future is quite long, where as 2-3 weeks really ain't that long, just see what is the best of the new p45's, instead of the older p35.
Hopefully the p45 will be as good and popular than the p35's.

The other reason i need a board now is that i have had a ggc h20l and films bought me so itchy fingers at the moment, so do i wait play safe with abit or jump in and and get a asus.

does the P35 do the job that you need it to?

does the P45 bring any advantage that would actually make any diference to you (i.e. will you be running Crossfire as that's about the only significant difference, the bandwidth for the 2nd card)?

As my main use is photo and video editing, watching movies, with the odd game i do not think crossfire will be any benefit to me, so will the pro be better for me, and as time go's by and the faster processors become cheaper can i upgrade so as to get more life out of the board before need of upgrading again.

I don't know that the Pro will be better for you than a P45 but I don't think that it will be neasurably worse ...
The Pro XE has "official" 1600fsb CPU support & I don't see there being any 775 CPUs past that as Nehalem brings a new socket shortly.
The Pro XE is on This Week Only for £96.
