Recomend server 2008 data recovery software?

a colleague of mine had deleted an important file and has no backup - can anyone recommend some software that may help?

Are shadow copies not enabled? May be wise, it's not complete (as in only shares, and if the server goes kaboom they won't be usable), but it's better than nothing
