Could someone recomend some compatible ram please? I have noticed that the QVL list in the manual is different to the one Asus support keep quoting.

I have tried Corsair Vengeance Pro Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (CMY8GX3M2A1866C9B) which does not work. the amount installed is halved.

According to the manual this is compatible Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9) Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9) but the sasu support wont confirm it.

That RAM should work, even if not listed on the verified compatibility list. Especially if it's from a reputable brand like Corsair.

Have you double checked if the RAM is installed correctly and are you using 64bit Windows? Does it not detect the RAM in the BIOs?

I thought it should work too :) but apparently not.

Yes it's been reseated and switched around where I have tested different sets of ram. The OS is Windows home premium 64bit

The Bios shows that there is 4GB but when you look at the specifics in the bios it shows both Dimms connected at 4GB each.

When you load windows, windows detects 8 GB but only 4 is useable. CPU-Z detects 8GB both dimms show up in slot #2 and #4 under the SPD tab but this is were it gets weird it shows 8GB on a single channel! on the Memory tab.

It just does not make any sense.

Try booting with one stick at a time to check if there's a faulty one :) If they both boot, download Memtest to stress each stick just to be sure they are not iffy.

I have tried booting with different configurations of memory, I have 3 sets of ram here the motherboard is halving total amount of ram with each set.

I have not tried memtest yet.

This is going to sound weird.

I returned Corsair Vengeance Pro Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-14900C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (CMY8GX3M2A1866C9B)

I installed

Slot A1 Crucial PC3 10700 4GB CT51264BA1339 1333mhz
Slot B1 Corsair PC3 10700H 2GB CMX4GX32A16009 1600 mhz (running at 1333mhz)
Slot A2 Crucial PC3 10700 4GB CT51264BA1339 1333mhz (running at 1333mhz)
Slot B2 PC3 10700H 2GB CMX4GX32A16009 1600mhz

And now I am getting 12gb installed 6 Useable on a single channel

I wouldv'e tried each stick individually at xmp or xmp timings manually entered.
If they don't boot, the ram is faulty / not working as advertised.

the fx should be fine with 2133 ram and maybe 2400.
