Hi all,

Wondering what PSU's come recommended these days for this sort of build?

I was under the impression that 1600Mhz is the sweetspot for memory, with 16gb being future proof and worthwhile due to cost? Some time back I would have been thinking of 8gb of Dominator GT, but it clashes with the cooler and case choice.

Thanks.

Asus Z77 Maximus V Gene
Intel Core i7-3770K
BeQuiet Dark Rock Advanced CPU Cooler
GeForce GTX 680
Asus Xonar Essence STX Sound Card
LG BH10LS38 10x BluRay-RW
1x SSD and 2x HDD 2TB-3TB
Silverstone TemJin TJ08B-E Midi Tower Case

It will only ever be a single 680 GPU, I guess £150 would be my probable maximum budget if necessary.

Surprised at the 850w recommendation though, as I did not think my proposed system would require so much?
According to the Corsair PSU calculator my proposed system with OC on CPU would require 430w to 650w?

The case recommends a 160mm long PSU which I believe Corsair and Seasonic are.

You run your spec at 100% under 650w....

Everything at 100% is probably no more than 550w.

That's CPU, GPU, HDDs, optical drive, fans... everything at 100% load/speed

To give a idea my system with a 580 Gtx, Overclocked i7 2700k and custom water I pull 430w from the mains at full load. CPU and GPU.

Assuming 80% efficient PSU that's about 350w PSU output.
Assuming 90% efficient PSU it's about 387w PSU output.

Add a 30% cushion and PSU output would be 450w and 500w respectively

Many thanks for the quick replies all :) starting to get some sense of direction here.

My old system has the Seasonic X-650 that was bought back in 01/12/09, I could probably replace that with a Corsair HX 650W ATX Modular, and stick the Seasonic in the new build or vice versa? My son will be laying claim to the old system.

Either that or buy a new Seasonic X-660 or X-760, or Corsair Silver or Gold variants, if they are better than the old X-650?

I already have some of the components such as the case, and Optic drive (bought in a sale months ago and sat unused since).

Vengence low profile looks the right size.
