Hi, im trying to decide whether to get a 6000+ x2 or a phenom 9650/9750, generally for gaming and just a bit of photoshopping. Or should i wait for these fx chips, if they are similarly priced?
Cheers

edit: currently running an x2 5200+, hd4870, 2gb geil ram and a gigabyte ga-ma770-ds3

for gaming you can't go wrong with the 6400 black edition if you can find one! Doubt you would utilise a quad core so its up to you how much money you have! Some people would recommend getting a whole new mobo and getting an intel chip.

5200x2

As you are already close to 6000 levels of speed why don't you just get a better cooler (Tuniq Tower or a TRUE) and OC it to 3ghz+

No point in the black edition 6400, the normal one (if you can still find 'em - are less with a good heatpipe cooler included & the black edition is not unlocked so essentially identical.)
If you're at 3ghz on an X2 already, then at stock speed neither a 6000 or 6400 is remotely worth the bother for the slight gains in clockspeed & cache.
Personally, I don't upgrade for less than 1ghz on the same architecture or equivelent - ie my last upgrade was 2.2ghz Athlon x2 to 3.2ghz Athlon x2 - anything less is only marginally noticable.
The phenoms are faster clock for clock but are available at lower clocks.
They're a better upgrade but only if your going to use the cores - light photoshop work probably doesn't fit the profile for benefitting from Phenom quads.
I think you should either stick to what you have for another year, especially if it does everything you want or, if you must have faster gaming performance, go for an 8 series Core 2 with the new motherboard. Even then, I'm inclined to think that for gaming, you would be much better to save that money for a new graphics card in a year, they advance so quickly.

Yea i may just stick with this for now... especially if the gains would be minimal. Il just wait and see what comes around in the future! thanks for the advice all!
