I'm looking to get a cheap digital SLR camera no more than £170. I've liked the look of the Canon Powershot S1 IS 3.2MP Digital Camera - 10 X Optical Zoom.
The S1 isn't an SLR. You won't get an SLR for that price (certainly not a new one), the cheapest is probably the Nikon D50 @ ~£400.
If you're not actually looking for an SLR then there's a fair few digital cameras to choose from in that price range, you might want to have a look at reviews on sites such as Steve's Digicams.
What you have pointed out there is an SLR style compact camera. An SLR, or in fact Digital SLR camera differentiates from the Canon S1 in many many ways, not least the most obvious being you can change the lenses on an SLR or Digital SLR camera.
The Canon is a good choice of camera, one you cannot go far wrong with. In this price range I would also consider the Fujifilm S5500 or S5600, both are SLR style in the fact they have that style of body...and will provide you with a very good introduction into digital photography.
okay thanks for the advice lol. I've decided to go for the Fuji FinePix S5600 which looks like a great camera for the price and the reviews looks great.
One question though, do you think it comes with a 16mb card with it from all sellers? Im buying it from this site which I suppose I cant link and it doesnt say but the site - http://www.dpreview.com/news/0507/05072802fuji_s5200zs5600z.asp says that it comes with a 16mb card..?
Hey, good choice! I've just bought the Fuji S5600 myself. Now waiting for my 1GB XD Card I ordered online... the included 16MB card runs out in about 10 shots!
It's a nice little bridge camera to get familiar with all the manual settings.
