Need a pair of desktop speakers as my trusty old Cambridge THX Soundworks have died. Need to stick with desktop style speakers due to space issues and no amp rather than going for 'proper' bookshelf or decent monitor speakers.

Does anyone have M-Audio DX-4 or Audiophile AV-40? I don't really like the look of the Creative Gigaworks. Any others worth looking at in this price range? <£100

Yeah they look pretty nice. Flatmates were complaining about the noise from the sub I've got at the moment, that's why I was hoping to find a decent pair of speakers minus the sub.

I think I'll just spend a bit more and get an amp and a couple of cool monitor speakers and some brackets so I can fix them onto the walls or something.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, I think I'm going to go for the Audioengine A2's, they look very nice, have the right connections I need and are also damn small. The Edirol's are pretty stylish looking but I don't really need the extra controls on the front of the speakers and I can't find them in black.

Stilll tempted by the M-Audio AV40's though as I've got an M-audio soundcard but I can't find size specs for them or what connections they have available on them, even on the official M-Audio site.

Think I'll have a wander around Brighton and see if I can find any of them in a shop to take a closer look and listen before ordering.

edit: Better wait a few weeks anyway, just remembered I've already treated myself to a new e8400 cpu this weekend :)

Yeah I was looking at those, also just stumbled across the "KAM sound packages" which are in the same price range and they come with a small amp and two speakers.
