I'm after an external USB drive for monthly redundancy backups. The idea will be to plug the drive in to initialise an event based backup... of my backups :p

Ideally compact and USB powered. Will anything from the usual suspects do, or would you recommend specific drives / brands for the job?

The current data total is 1.8tb.

Came here to post the exact same thing!

Ideally was looking around for 4TB HGST units but they are all long gone and Im not keep on Seagate or WD from historic reasons.

Well I went for one of the new WD My Passport drives, didn’t bother with the software but I bet it would be handy if you didn’t have a backup system already.

Good, quiet drive. Time will tell on reliability.
