So my TCL i got for £650 on the costco deal has crapped itself after just 6 months of use....

Thankfully im able to return this and get a different model, anything you guys could recommend?

I picked up a Samsung 65" QLED last year which has been great. It was approx £900 with a soundbar so if any slightly older models are still available, they should be around that price mark I'd guess.

Do you mean get a refund and shop elsewhere or an exchange and a different model from Costco?

If you're limited to Costco you only have a selection of a few anyway:

£869 Sony KE65XH9005BU
£849 LG 65UP77006LB
£799 Hisense 65U8QFTUK
£798 LG 65NANO756PA
£789 Panasonic 65HX800BZ

Philips 65PUS7805

Or for a bit more but a 6 year warranty

I am very happy with mine for the price, it might not be perfect, but it does proper HDR unlike others at the same price point.

Caveat, I only use it for film and tv, I don't think it is that great for sport or games, as motion handling isn't a strong suit.
Yeah we'll be using it for mainly movies and TV. We do occasionally use it for casting when in VR especially in group games/parties but doubt its gonna matter.

We're getting a refund, they couldn't give us an exchange due to it being online and the item is no longer available at that price point even though we offered to pay more for a different model they still didn't want to...

Is there much different between all these QLED, OLED and UHD TV's? I only buy a new TV like once every 5-6 years if not more so never really catch up with all the technological upgrades.

OLED is a notably different technology to a regular LCD TV, QLED is marketing to trick people into thinking they're buying an OLED equivalent rather than (a fancy) LED backlit LCD, UHD is simply resolution.

For an £800 budget forget about OLED, you won't get a 55" OLED for that, nevermind a 65" one.

OLED will be out of your budget for 65". Fantastic tech, but you need to babysit the panels a bit more than LEDs.

Very few TVs at this price-point can do full HDR, but if you aren't/aren't planning to watch 4k HDR content, then it is a bit moot.

Dolby Vision and HDR films have all looked amazing on my Hisense, and the fact that the wife often leaves the tv on just showing her Youtube homescreen means it's a good thing we don't have OLED as it would be burn-in city.

Thanks for the info, love abit of simplicity without all the tech jargon.

Quite tempted by the Hisense you have as they have it at costco for £799 as Kenai has quoted. Think its available in store too so will go have a look.

We do watch a lot of 4k content, mostly netflix, amazon prime and disney plus.

get a secondhand Panasonic DX902 ?
Think we want to stick with new for warranty purposes, will keep in mind though.

i asked this very question over on AV Forums (they seem to know whats best)

assuming i can link to the thread ?

heres the argument

OLED 55" 4K minimum they said if you want 4K display

Enthusiast forum is enthusiast ;)

I had a proper cheap Hisense 4k tv before this, £250, and 4k still looked good (even if not HDR)

With the OP's budget, and willing to accept 55", a 55BX6 for £900 would be great for most things.

However, if 65" is a sticking point (like it was for me), then the £800 U8Q is the best bang for buck (I paid £950).

That said, what is viewing/seating situation like @Jay85 ?

If it is head-on, just 2-4 peeps, then great, but if you have people viewing from wider angles, then a VA panel is not the best choice, you would need to sacrifice some black levels and get an IPS panel, or stump up for OLED.

Been keeping an eye on this thread as looking for a 65” tv for the living room and the Hisense 65U8QFTUK is down to £649 at Costco, which seems like a bargain for a tv with those specs.

I know it’s got it’s issues and weaknesses but for watching the films and streaming services seems spot on.

So just an update guys, i've had a stream of bad luck recently but i'll just get into the parts involving the TV...

I was originally going to go with the Hisense as recommended on here but my dad dissuaded me from buying it so instead i upped my budget a little for something slightly better.

So as per original post, TCL crapped out with a line down the middle and one going across. Still waiting for that to be picked up so i can i get a refund.

Been eyeing up some other models and even considered some higher end LCD's which this TV then popped at costco on offer for £839
Sony KE65XH9005BU 65 Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart Android TV

Thought great! Yes finally a new TV and looking forward to setting it up and enjoying some movies again... Then this happened...

No physical damage to the box, but as soon as i switched it on this is what i was presented with! GUTTED! Straight back to Costco and thankfully they had 1 more in stock so quickly grabbed that... As they say, third time's the charm!

Still waiting on refunds for both faulty TV's about £1500 lol.

Just happy to actually have a working TV now, not taking it for granted ever again
