I have a P5KC and an e6850 which i recently upgraded to 4gb corsair dominator (2xgb with ram fan...got a great deal)

Would like to overclock. My current idle temps are 45C but ive not opened my case in 2 1/2 years and may have the stock cooler maladjusted.

can someone recommend a £30-£45 cooler and fan which will not block the ram slots (with corsair fan still attached if possible). Im not looking for overkill. just something that will help OC.

Does it matter if I mount the ram in channel A or B? Channel B is further away from the CPU. If at all possible id rather not take my motherboard out to fit it.

thx

I've got E6750 (2.66 stock) cooled with Arctic Cooler Freezer Xtreme. It's stable in o/c upto 3.6 GHz (~60-62 deg under load) in CM 330 Elite case, so you should have 3.7-.3.8 GHz with it.

i have the sunbeam core contact freezer on my 6850 @ 3.6. Seen it go to around 50 maybe 55 on load in a warm room

BUT, it has rubbish plastic clips, so after removing it two or 3 times the plastic clips that go through the mobo are badly damaged and a pain to re-jig, but if you dont want to remove mobo its an option

I recomed the sunbeam on cooling and 1 fit alone, i would recomend that you get a cpu cooler backplate, and if you dont have the hole on the back of you mobo tray in your case, cut 1 with a dremel

btw sunbeam came with mx-2 paste which seems decent and was in your price range

Buy if you plan to only attach once, get a backplate if your a fiddler
