Any classical musicians in the house?
I've been asked to recommend a new computer for a local elderly music teacher to go in a really small room. She mainly wants it for standard web browsing, viewing pictures she took on her camera, Skype, and the like, but she is also a music teacher and may wish to work on music. Her 'computer room' is a 2m square cubbyhole, so the computer has to be really small. She also has an iPad, and wants to transfer pictures from between the two.
Her current PC is a decade-old uSFF HP system running XP.
Without the music aspect I'd recommend her something like the Primo Micro Complete and an external optical drive and a webcam. Though I don't believe either of the monitors in the Primo bundle rotates, which will be important for her. She should be able to get an educational license of MS Office from her university.
But she wants me to investigate the option of music. She would be listening and reading rather than composing or recording. This means running software like Sibelius and a really good set of headphones, and I have no experience here.
We've discussed the possibility of a laptop and on balance decided against it: she already has her iPad for when she travels and prefers the full-size screen and keyboard.
There is no set budget yet.
