I have a rig based on the Asus P5Q Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard currently holding a Q6600 GO. Other bits and pieces: two Seagate 500GB drives, HIS 4850 512Mb graphics card and 4Mb Corsair 6400C5 ram.

Used mainly for Adobe applications, a few movies (Cyberlink HiDef suite and LG Bluray player).

What would recommend for a CPU upgrade? Would a BIOS upgrade be needed?

Cheers

Which P5Q are you using? the deluxe? or -E? the Pro? Whats your current BIOS Version for that board?

For what your using your current Quad should be fine, have you tried OC'ing it? Otherwise if you really wanna get a new one get the Q9550, or if you dont care about spending like an extra £50-60 get the Q9650 and OC the hell out of them.

Is there any point?

You would have to spend 150-200 to get a CPU that is better than yours.

The only CPU you can get thats better than that one is an upgraded Core 2 Quad. You can't have a i7 because you don't have the socket on your motherboard for it.

If you do decide to upgrade to a slightly better Core 2 Quad the difference will be MINIMAL.

You would get a far better performance boost by simply overclocking your current CPU.

As for your money, you may as well save it until you can afford a PC upgrade worth while ;)
