I like to take my boy out on the long walks. But my gf keeps buying coats from charity shops that either don't fit or are ****.

He doesn't like the rain much but he loves his walks. And I don't want to not take him if it's just wet.

He doesn't really need a warm coat. It's more the waterproof.

He's a difficult shape as he's long and has a deep chest. But he's quite slim.

The one I have at the moment is a bit saggy underneath. So it drags a bit. And as these are proper hikes it really needs to be fitted. But also not get in the way when he's peeing.

Pic added to encourage responses!
You can see the deep chest in the pic

Presume you've tried the usual places like Pets at Home etc?

No. Always dubious of their quality.
Its a bit hit and miss with dog coats.

Really, I'm looking for something water proof. He's not going to get cold. But wet and cold is less nice if you're out hours and hours.

I'm looking into something similar for my Dog as he gets older. He's a bit longer bodied with a barrel chest, but shorter legs so he's a bit awkward as well.

It's probably more of an issue for my dog as he's closer to the ground, but anything that just has a vest kind of deal going over their chest just lets mud and grit in as they walk on muddy ground, and they get wet anyway. I'd go for something with um... sleeves? (Or maybe legs!) on it! If your dog will wear it!
This looks a good site. Lots of options and reviews.

If trekking a lot, we struggled finding one for use in the Lakes when hiking around..

After 3 failed attempts we found one that suited, the right level of protection for our dog:

If you want something more posh/casual, we did get a lovely barbour dog coat, https://www.barbour.com/uk/barbour-2-in-1-wax-dog-coat-dco0018ol71, detachable lining..
Obviously wait for the sales, we paid £40.. and use it for just generally being out/about in inclement weather.
I actually wonder if that's too warm for him?
Not sure on the collar bit. It might be too restrictive for him.

At the moment it's going to be UK only.
I'm of the opinion I don't think he needs a warm coat. Only a dry coat.

I don't want anything on the legs etc as that's just going to get muddy and restrict him.

I actually was eyeing up this one as it looks quite material light. But covers his back.

Why don’t you get him one of those posh harnesses, they can double up as a waterproof.

There’s this girl who walks are dog around the same time I go for my evening jogs… the dog has more coats than coats that I wear… I had to ask her if he (the dog) actually had two green coats, as I thought I was going crazy as one got had legs and the other didn’t..

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. But the one I just linked has an inbuilt harness. (ie don't need a harness too)

After a lot of research, we got our greyhound a Hurtta Expedition Parka for the winter (we started off with a cheap one from Pets @ Home but to be honest the fit isn't great - it's just about OK to keep a light summer shower off her back, but nowhere near warm or covering enough for winter weather).

It feels really well made, good quality, and lots of adjustment. Probably a bit too warm for your fluffy beast, but they do a "Monsoon" coat as well, which looks like a much thinner waterproof: https://hurttaonline.co.uk/product-category/coats/monsoon-coat/
Think I'm going to go for this one.
The water proof one. Not the warm+waterproof one.

Thank you

He'll get to open it on Christmas. Damn dog is spoilt

Good choice, we went for the same colour :D (we really wanted the yellow one but they didn't have her size :()

Yeah I hope it's that nice blue. Not the naff blue in one of the pics! I might clarify!

If you've got any pics that would be great.

Like that it's adjustable and can use his harness with it.

Missus got a coat for our dog from Pets at home recently. It's ok but a bit short and doesn't really cover his bum.

Your dog looks a similar size shape to ours.

I don't really think he needs it at all but missus wants it because his thick fur holds water when wet and he takes ages to dry.

First got a 60cm. After measuring. But the 55 fits just right.

His tail is right in the groove
