As the title really. I am looking for a decent flight sim/game for my son who is a very 'precise' gamer. He likes Minecraft for the building, not the combat for example, and he likes to know how everything works.

I was looking for a flight sim that gives him the opportunity to fly around but also might have some simple combat.

I have ordered a Thrustmaster T-Flight and we want to be able to use it without having to have a degree in flight engineering/a pilots license in order to have fun.

It doesn't really matter what era it is from - (I remember having fab lan parties plying F22 Raptor and also WW2 sims) as long as it is accessible.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

not a flight sim in that sense, but Kerbal Space programme may be something for him?
you get to builds rockets and other contraptions and then set off into space ;)

Granted I've not played in a decade, but I see Aces High is still running. The client is a free download and offers basic offline combat. If memory serves, there are four aircraft circling the airport and you can shoot them down. There's also things you can bomb. But the main thing is to just fly around. And some of the maps have secrets to find.

From what I recall Rise of Flight (WW1 sim) had fairly scalable difficulty and the planes due to the time period obviously don't have that many things to control and manage. It also has a free to play version with a limited selection of planes so he could have a go at that?

Thanks for the replies. They look really good. I think I can see me downloading aces high and Rise of Flight and the rocket one looks great.

He will love kerbel is he likes to figure things out.

Pick it up on one of the cd key store for a tenner or even less.

Plus plenty of mods to keep him occupied.

I know it's not got combat but FSX is great - really simple in basic modes and when I was in my early teens I used to love playing FS 98 with my friend and simply exploring. Wouldn't pass it up because it has no combat.
