About to buy the Saitek driving wheel: Saitek R440 Force Feedback Steering Wheel (KB-012-SK)

Anyone recommend a good game or two to go with it?

Sims:
GTR
GT Legends
rFactor
Live for Speed
Richard Burns Rally
Grand Prix Legends

More Arcadey:
TOCA 3
Need for Speed Underground / Most Wanted
Flatout / Flatout 2

Live For Speed is the best racing game ive ever played. RFactor is another one that might be worth a look, but its nto to my tastes. Give the GTR2 demo a go, im addicted to it at the minute.

GTR2s force feedback isnt too good. LFS' is nice, but not overpowering and with RFactor you dont need a gym account, a few laps and youve done an entire workout :p

Grand Prix Legends, best racing sim ever imo :)

Not a fan of LFS, GT Legends is good although i've only ever played the demo...

Nothing on the ISI code (so GTL, GTR2, GTR2, F1C or rF) has very good force feedback. LFS is slightly better in terms of FF, but that's essentially an arcade game with some simulation features in it.

NR2003 (and the free GTP mod that can bolt onto it) is by far the most realistic. GPL has the 2nd best force feedback, but it's now 8 years old, and the graphics is showing it. Still, I don't look at the shiny bits anyway, it's all about the physics, and GPL still rocks in that area.

Looking forward to the controversial iRacing.com product though.

//edit: don't touch nK Pro with a barge-pole. There's been no support since the day after release, and there's unlikely to be either. It's essentially the same as the free nK from years before, but with better graphics. The graphics are awesome, but there's no offline racing, and the online is horribly broken. Still great if you like hotlapping, but it becomes rather boring rather quickly.

How so? I haven't heard much about it, can you give us some gumpth?
Well it's to all intents and purposes the same guys who were at Papyrus when they lost the license to make NASCAR sims. Papyrus then ceased to exist, and out of the ashes, funded by John Henry, they formed iRacing.com. They've got a sim coming, but other than a list of tracks and cars, and that it's centred on an online-based career, no-one really knows much about it.

The reason it's so controversial is that they purchased the source code that was used for NR2003, and went about threatening legal action to anyone who reverse-engineered the code for NR2003, killing off a lot of mods and addons in the process, which was their right, but it didn't go down well with the fans, especially when some of their staff actually made mods themselves as a fan site once NR2003 was finished. The GTP mod was given special dispensation (or a license if you like) to use the code.

Papy probably made the best sims ever in whichever generation they chose to release a product, so I'm more than willing to subscribe to whatever they come out with, but others are refusing to back it given what they've done to the community, whether within their rights or not.

Another vote for rFactor here. The FF can be amazing if it's tweaked correctly, I have mine feeling pretty much perfect now.

As for arcade driving games, Flatout 2, without doubt. Such a fun game, I can't get enough of it :D

I have to take issue with you here. There has been virtually no support, and yes there are issues. However, the sim can be set up, and problems solved, and there are several leagues running with very few problems. I am running in two at the moment, and it's some of the best online racing I've had.

PC performance suffers because of the online code, but the physics make up for the current shortcomings. It is a matter of opinion, but many see them nKpro as having the best sim physics to date.

A new patch is being worked on and is currently being tested.

I too think this will be the greatsest sim product to ever hit the market when it is released. I've been following their progress as closely as I can, and they really look like they're going to take sim racing to the next level.

I don't really understand the politics of the controversies, but I'm not too concerned. If it's good, I'll be there, and I imagine so will many of those who currently claim they'll have nothing to do with it.
