After reading the hilarious posts in 'Whats the funniest/evilest things you've done in a game' thread, It has really given me the taste to try some online gaming. I got Battlefield 2 with a graphics card, but have never opened it.

How easy is Battlefield 2 for a beginner?

Or can you recommend any others?

You would probably be better off getting BF2142. The new version as it has multiplayer servers which only allow "n00bs" under a certain rank to go on it. It allows you to get a good run in to the game without getting beaten to a pulp your first few goes. Also apparently BF2 has a lot of smacktards now that most of the players have moved to 2142. Lots of friendly OcUK players on 2142 and we all tend to play on the same servers so it's a good community.

Battlefield 2 isn't too bad, have a play around on Single player and get used to how the gameplay mechanics work, how vehicles work and all that. You'll have to remember it's a team game, and that you'll get kicked very quickly if you can't tell the difference between your team mates and enemy.

That's my concern, as a total noob I'll need to cut my teeth somewhere... and while I don't mind paying my dues and getting my ass kicked the first few times, I don't quite fancy a continual beating!!!

I thought about SWG or Guild Wars, but they look pretty deep, and I can't really give the time I would like too on games these days. Looking for something fun and not too taxing on my tiny mind!!!!

Bf2 IMO isnt that amazingly noob friendly, There are a lot of players out there that just play for the stats you see so it does make it quite hard sometimes.

If you do play BF2 then the biggest help i can tell you is to join a squad (by hitting enter then the squad tab) and play as a medic/support and just try and follow your team around (normally hanging back abit) and learn that way. Because IMO if you play solo as a noob you will find the game 10x harder/boring.

Also play a more simple map to start so say Karkand on 16/32 player and just get to grips with what the different player classes look like so you dont have to even look for red for enemy blue/green for team/squad if you know what i mean. But more simply the MEC are Dark colours brown/green and the USMC are Grey/light brown so its not THAT hard :)

Another tip aswell is if you see nades coming your way, always expect there to be another 3 (or more) to follow, because a lot of people in this game are brain dead and only have enough skill to just spam nades for the whole round, So if your being naded either back off or CHARGE!!

Add me to msn aswell if you like, i can help you a lot better without me just sitting here at work trying to think of helpfull tips etc.

Thanks very much for your reply... exactly the kind of response I was looking for. I'll load this up tonight and perhaps spend a few days getting familiar with the thing... as per the above suggestion.... and then look you up.

Like I said earlier, I've totally let the online gaming thing pass me by, but now feel the need to at least try it. I have a friend who is big time into SWG, and has offered to usher me into the game, but the more I hear about it, the more daunting and time consuming it sounds. Nothing wrong with that, of course, just not my cup of tea, or something I could dedicate the time too... not without getting divorced by the wife, kid and dog!!!!!

Many thanks, again.

Hi
How about css, thats what i started with!

Yeah. I have CSS on my PC... I think it downloaded when I recently bought HL2, but have yet to try it.

Obviously I have a few options... including solitaire!!!!!

Thanks for the suggestion.

np mate! Thre are plenty of newbie servers on there so you wont get owned too much lol!

I personally found BF2 pretty hard when I first started, but after a map or two you get into it, it isnt the most demanding game in terms of skill tbh, anyone can sit in a tank for 3 hours an get the most kills

I guess for the first couple of goes I'll carry a sign above my head proclaiming "FRESH MEAT" !!!!!!!!

Oh well, I'd rather be continually killed than watch another episode of Property Ladder with the wife!!!!!!!!

Thanks again.
