Recommend a Good Set of Drill Bits

Hi Guys

I need a good set of general purpose drill bits, that includes the screwdriver bits.

I have seen the Dewalt DT0109 109 piece set for £20, but this seems very cheap and maybe the quality is not so good? I have seen someone say Dewalt is just adding its name to a cheap generally available set. However, I like it because it is comprehensive and gives you a traditional screwdriver handle to use with the screwdriver bits as well.

Other than that, I'm looking at the Bosch sets like the X53 or X70T.

The key thing is I want a good screwdriver solution to use with the cordless drill.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks

What is it that you're going to be drilling through? Wood, Steel, Masonry? Or a mix of all 3?

I have the bosch green set and I agree that it's not amazing. My dad has a Makita set and that seems noticeably better (although the inclusion of a spirit level makes me laugh. Makes no sense in a drill set).

I also have the three of the sets that Aldi do for £3.99 each. These seem really good for the money.

The other day, I needed to drill a 12mm hole through wood so I purchased one of these:

I'd happily buy a full set of them, it worked amazing. Ignore the 3.5 star review because when you look at any review less than 5 star, it's either people saying how amazing it worked (but still haven't given it 5 star, lol) or it's people saying it didn't fit their particular drill (doesn't meant it's a bad product).

At the moment I just need to drill and screw wood, but I might as well get something useful for future. The Makita P-67832 101 piece accessory set mentioned does look high quality and great value, so I will try and get that.

In a domestic setting, my experience has been that cheap wood drills and HSS drills are fine. Cheap masonry drills are terrible.

It'll all depend on what you are drilling into though. You might have really soft brick walls, or very tough granite walls. You might want to drill a lot of stainless steel. etc etc

I was given some cheap masonry bits and found them terrible, but I've found the Dewalt Extreme masonry bits to be excellent. Watch out for sets that don't include a 7mm bit (brown plug) - that is the main one I use. I've a mix of various cheap to OK HSS and wood drills and they've been fine for my uses.

I bought a 5 piece Bosch Blue drill bit set after a recommendation on here and theyve been great for everything Ive thrown at them so far.

I would recommend the Bosch multi construction drill bits. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-2607010546-Multi-Construction-Drill-Pieces/dp/B001L1RAYQ
Granted they arnt the cheapest but you pick the set up a little cheaper if you shop around.
Can also recommend the dewalt bit holder set linked to further up, if you are driving a lot of screws you will likely burn through the ph/pz2 in not too long a time but it's handy to have the various other pieces you would use very infrequently and buy a few higher quality ph/pz2 when you chew through the included ones. Bosch robust line and wera bits are good imo
