I found one,

The ATI Radeon™ HD 3400 Series GPU further enhances the HD entertainment experience by making it easy to make the connection to a big- screen or home theater system. With built-in 5.1 surround audio (AC3) pass-through capabilities, the new GPUs and graphics cards support a single HDMI connection direct to a compatible TV or receiver. This single cable carries both the HD video and 5.1 surround audio for a clean, high definition connection. Some graphics cards will have an HDMI connector built in, while others will use a special ATI Radeon DVI-I to HDMI adapter. These options mean greater choice and flexibility for consumers when connecting to PC monitors or home theaters for maximum enjoyment of full HD 1080p content.

£30!!

The NV 260/280 allow you to connect the digital output on your existinrg sound card to the video card, to be pass oin to the DVI.
Which is better if you need to use a decent sound card rather than some one-chip-wonder sitting in an intensely noisey place (ie, right beside a GPU).

The onboard chips on the ATI's are fine though, and with any luck, as more people buy ATI cards with HDMI outputs.....creative will go out of business and people will stop buying "gaming" sound cards. Soon there will only be onboard ATI chips for gamers and proper external units for digital audio and cubase nutters.

In context to the OP & thread in general your comment is totally void.

Gaming will not be needed at all. 260/280 overkill

I gather he uses on-board sound. 260/280 allow you to connect the digital output on your existing sound card to the video card is of no use i this situation.

260/280 cost a few bob more than £30.

The HDMI outputs on GFX cards that support sound only pass on the digital data for the sound to TV, Projector, etc. The GFX cards don't do any DAC conversion processing which any proper sound card/chipset will do so they aren't going anywhere soon. It's similar to how USB/Firewire speakers work.

To clarify.
AMD(Ati) has integrated a Realtek (5.1 for 2xxx and 3xxx, 7.1 for 4xxx) audio device inside the GPU which means that the sound card's HDMI output shows up as sound device in Windows. In my opinion this is an easier solution than on NVIDIA's cards where you have to route an audio cable from your motherboard to the VGA card.

To the OP (as said before) just buy any ?20-?30 Ati HD 3450, like this one here. Then get a any standard HDMI cable and be happy :)
