I'm looking to pass my GFX card onto my son so he can play more modern games and I want to upgrade my current Geforce 1080 Ti 11Gb for something that will give a performance bennefit.

I don't really do creating stuff like Photoshop or rendering, I mainly do office work but also play COD MW3. I have a Gigabyte Gaming Series G32QC monitor running at 165Khz and 2560x1440.

Not looking for top of the range gaming but would like something that will last me for 3-5 years.

Thanks and Merry Christmas one and all!

Within budget I would agree with Armageus 's recomendations either RTX4070 (for Ray tracing perf) or Rx7800XT (if not really bothered about Ray Tracing and £100 cheaper).

I bought a 6800xt (very similiar to 7800xt- just not quite as quick and no AV1 encoder) back in May and am very pleased with its performance - in partic after I down volted it.:)

Just upgraded a friends PC from 1080 Ti to a 7800XT. Initially I thought a 3060 Ti would be a cheap upgrade as I had one kicking around but on raster the 1080 Ti is still up there so the value choice new was the 7800XT around £500 with a free game as a bonus.

And if your friend tweaks it can match a higher tiered card from last gen as above.

I'm in the same boat as you, would really like to upgrade from my 1080ti, and think ill go for the 7900xtx (hoping for a price drop when the 4XXX super is announced)

my reasoning is, i want to to last 5+ years. so me that means as much vram as possible
yes RT look better. but that just software/drivers and hopefully AMD will keep improving, but memory is physical, and outside of upgrading what you buy is what your stuck with.

Might be worth waiting for the 4070Ti Super cards. 16GB vram and closer to 4080 performance.
I'm in the same boat as you, but have stretched out the use of my 1080 Ti thus far.

I just got a used 3080TI Tuff for £500 12Gb , it's a 4K card at 60FPS, so if sticking to 1440P will serve you good for the years you stated, will have good resell value too.
