Hi all,

i have currently been having a few system problems with in game crashes which seems to be down to heat.

Im getting an Idle Temp of around 35 oc and with Load into the 50's though it may go higher when im in game, my room gets hot so room temp is quite high.

My CPU is a 3.4 Ghz not over clocked, with a stock heat sink and fan, beleive the socket is 478.

Could someone recommend a good fan and heat sink for my system?

I dont think a massive fan will fit into my case, the case is big but the motherboard chip has a fan and heatsink on it which takes up space right next to the CPU.

Any recommendations would be most welcome.

What specific cpu is it?
Use cpuz to check
If its a prescott then thats about as cool as it'll get.
I'm guessing its a northwood, in which case max temp is somewhere between 64 and 78 depending on the model.

Sythe ninja is the best heatsink around, but its big.
Also consider the thermaright xp/si 120, or xp-90c if space is really tight.

Welcome to the forums btw. Hope your folding for us \/

It is a Northwood sorry should have noted that down before.

With either one of those fans will i see a noticeable drop in temprature?

Thanks for the welcome.

You should see a significant drop in temps with any of those heatsinks.
The thermalright ones don't come with a fan btw.

Thanks, after posting that i did do some reading up on the Nexus, im also very tempted to go for the Ninja now, i just need to have a measure up and see if the heatsink will clear the components on the Mobo.

Would you say that the Akasa fans surpass the Nexus, in terms of cooling ability and noise or are they pretty much the same?

The Nexus is one of the best fans around, far better than the akasa.
Its about the quietest 120mm fan there is.

I recommend the ninja if you have the space.
