A good pal wants to buy a laptop. He knows nowt about computers. He has asked me to recommend a laptop. Shortlist a few for him.
I am fairly good with PC stuff and build my own but current gen laptops I know nowt about.

He will be phote editing. Maybe a teeny bit of video editing.

Any real sparklers or bargains out there at the moment?

Thank you.

Would second hand be an option? You'd get more bang for your buck and his editing would benefit a lot. Better screens on higher end laptops will have way better colour reproduction.

MacBook Air M1 with 16gigs of RAM £1200.

Not per say maxing value compared to a Windows laptop but for all day battery life and good photo editing performance it’s really something to consider.

Ok, so as I said, my current knowledge of laptops is zero.
My pal who wants one has sent me a couple of ads for ones he has been looking at on the net.
They seem to have integrated graphics. Doesn't say what the graphics spec is. Is he wise to consider anything with integrated graphics for photo editing>

Perhaps something with a named, dedicated graphics card would be better? RTX 3060, 4060 in his price range.

I've sent him a link to overclockers laptops page.

I've just purchased an Asus Vivobook Pro, as a portable option for creative work-to cover my work needs when away from the office-as an alternative to a 14/15 inch Macbook Pro. There are bigger sizes and a number of variations with regard to the same model number. For example, mine came with a RTX 4050 and not the Rtx 3050-as listed in the following review.

Review is here : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Isz4_d_Zw_s&ab_channel=ASUS
