Recommend a laptop for £400ish

quick search comes up with this -

- Intel Celeron M 380 1.6Ghz

- 14.1" WXGA Widescreen Panel (1280x800)
- 512MB DDR2 Memory (2x256MB)
- 40GB IDE Hard Drive
- Internal 24xCDRW/8xDVD Combo Drive
- Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsift Works 7.0
- 1yr DELL collect & return warranty (Call DELL on 0870 9080800 and have the work number from the original packaging handy)

Note - All Dell laptops are built on demand, during busy periods this may cause a delay of between 2 and 5 days in despatching your order.

Price: £339.95 (£399.44 Including VAT at 17.5%)

Its a 14 inch screen but at that money thats the best you can get (at least from ocuk i think)

The 640m works out to be £646 inc vat, the 6400 though looks decent enough (though i have not tested it myself) spec wise- no real graphics capability though if thats a problem.

Managed to find exactly the same laptop and spec as above but with a 15.4" display for £381.24.

The only problem is that it comes with 256MB RAM. No problem really as you can get a stick of Crucial 256MB for £22.31.

Everything you need for £403.55.:)

i can stretch to £650....

i dont need gaming at all. just to run footie manager.. any ideas

(sorry for stealing the limelight for a bit from OP.. but im at college and somereason i can only reply.. not start threads... stupid restrictions on the network)

it should be able to run football manager easily enough, being that the game is all to do with running maths calculations im right in thinking? (dont play it myself :))

is the dell 640m.. worth it over the 6400?

6400 bigger screen less ram.. cdrw £540inc vat

640m smaller screen more ram.. dvdrw £646inc vat

HP Pavilion dv5016ea

Amd 3000+ Sempron
15.4" widescreen beautiful screen
1gb ram
40gb hdd
dvdrw.
wifi and ethernet

only downside i dont like is its only got 2usb ports.

£570 new from high street.

very good build quality, much better than the dells,, i hate the plastic used on the dells the keyboards flex, the housing bends under slight touch.

£570 :p
