This is for a mate, I am leaning towards just telling him to get an Air which he can get with student discount. He would have to buy Windows 8 which will have to be factored into the cost.
Requirements, in order of preference:
- Very quiet during browsing/non intensive tasks - noise fan must be inaudible during
browsing for instance.
- Light and thin
- Between 11.6" - 13.3" (with a preference to slightly larger)
- Be able to run the latest Windows (even if through VM).
- SSD or upgradable to one.
- At least 4GB RAM.
- Greater than 1366*768 resolution
- Cost, ~1K budget.
- Touchscreen - more for the gadget than anything else.
