Recommend a mic for fiming?

Hey OCUK,

so im doing a media course for college. Anyway the equipment provided to our course is really poor. We got dolly tripods which are wonky and stiff, outdated camcorders and other stuff. So i've been buying my own equipment such as tripods and dolly tracks for my DSLR. Anyway i've realised that i also need a microphone so i was hoping to get some recommendations.

Me and a friend are thinking of chipping in together and getting the zoom h1.

That sounds like a good shout, shadow. Had a quick look at the videomic and the price was a lot less than i thought it would be.

The entire industry uses Rycote mics but unless your REALLY keen to have your own kit for a personal hobby its an extravagance and unnecessary to own your own kit - especially for a course.

The Zoom H1 looks like it would do pretty well for Audio, nice an compact and no need to have it latched to the camera. Think I'll be buying one of those myself soon... Focusing on glass for my camera for the time being though.
