I'm trying to put together a new build list and want the ability to have RAID and Crossfire in the future. I plan to have just one ATI and one Raptor connected day one, but want the ability to add later.

Also what is the quality of the onboard sound, is it better to get a mobo without and get a seperate card - does this keep processing away from the CPU?

EDIT - forgot, will be buying an AMD 64 X2 range CPU.

on board sound is ok, i got a cheap creative 7.1 card but it made little difference to quality. If your really into good quality sound then id look at spending a bit more on a good card.. check out some reviews on the net. the more expensive snd cards do take strain off the cpu, not sure about the budget ones tho?!

most new mobos will allow you to use raid and also support dual core

but it all depends what your budget is.. i like the new asus rd580 mobo but a lot of peeps are having problems with it

A lot of the problems with the Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe have been resolved now with the new 311 bios. It's a great card. Dual PCI-E x16, RAID and Hi-Def onboard sound, which alledgedly is a lot better than some other solutions. Haven't used the onboard sound myself.

Having a dedicated sound card will ease pressure on the cpu (probably to the tune of a few frames per second). Bear in mind that with Crossfire installed you'll be left with 2 accessible pci slots.
