Recommend a new camera please :)

Ok got a fault with my Sony Cybershot W12 - wont read memory card properly.... wont format... etc etc...
but will read a smaller one... grrrrr

anyways after reading the net - apparently it will cost more to fix than get a new camera....

so thinking of getting a new one £200 is the budget.

I have 2gb memory stick which I guess Ill have to ditch ...

things I like on the W12 :

Large Screen
Video can be as much as memory allows - 640 I think it was... better would be advantage
erm.... quick start - zoom was good

Im not a `photographer` - but am really put off with the Sony fault.
So thinking another make...

Any recommendations ?
Would like to order tonight for new years Eve

I cant fault canon products. This goes for camera's, printers, scanners. I know its all personal choice, but Canon stuff has always been the best.

I just bought a Canon camera today. Im very happy with it. Im sure you could get a good IXUS for that money

You can tell it's XMAS with all the requests on what camera to buy! Like the last two or three requests I'm going to recommend the Canon ISUX 800 IS or 850 IS (if you can get that for under £200).

ordered the IXUS 800 - and a Sandisk Ultra II 2 gb card - hope this is fast enough for the camera?

Now need a good case for it - any in particular ?

The Sandisk Ultra II will be perfect just make sure it's a real one; a LOT of fakes out there.

I like the Lowepro range of cases, bags and pouches.

Would recommending a Canon A710 IS have been accepted? I ask because i have pretty much the same criteria and that's the cam which has caught my eye, 7mp/6x zoom (8x in 3mp mode) and a high performing image stabiliser, all ofr just over £190... Can anyone give me any comments?

As you can see they are very similar cameras but IXUS range has the advantage of being smaller. If you don't need a pocket sized camera then there is nothing wrong with getting the A710 IS.

My brother has a Canon A710 and I use it sometimes; he is very happy.

another vote for canon products. I got the canon powershot a710is for christmas i am very happy with it. Not used the cam on it yet but will get round to it at some point. Just love the 6x optical zoom which was the main reason for buying it ,plus its a canon.
All the canon cameras mentioned in above posts are very good. if you want a pocket size one get a ixus if not go for a powershot.
