Hey people,

I have a friend in need of a new GPU as their old one is showing signs of death.

They are mostly house-bound due to disability and mostly plays Star Trek: Online.

However they're on a tight budget. They need something that will still handle the requirements of the game to a decent level (High if possible) but can only afford around the £200 mark.

Their current GPU is struggling with the game with recent updates.

The current GPU is a GTX 650Ti

Thanks for your time.

What resolution does he play at, and what are the rest of his computers specifications including PSU?

He plays at 1080 wherever possible (limit of his monitor), It's an older system, a AMD 4130 IIRC with 16GB RAM & a Corsair 650w PSU

FX4130 was pretty low end even when it launched.

I'd look second hand, see if you can get a cheap AMD 8320 or something to replace his CPU and get an RX580 or similar, you should be able to pick one up for around £80 without a problem.

Maybe put a request in on the Members Market section of the forum?

Check his mobo CPU support list just to be safe.

I think upgrading the CPU might be a good idea first as these kind of games tend to be more CPU heavy. Also there are cheap refurb graphics cards available if you know where to look(RX480 8GB refurb for £70). What PSU is in the system?

Youn can get a Ryzen 5 1600AF,8GB 3200MHZ and an ASRock B450M Pro4-F for under £200.

If you don't mind dropping to an Athlon 3000G dual core, you can probably get a refurb RX470 4GB included for around £200 in total.
