Hey,

New to the forum but not to OverClockers. I have been buying from you guys since I was at Uni, which thinking about it was a depressingly long time ago.

Also, I hope this doesn’t come across as ‘I’m too lazy to research it myself, so I’ll just ask someone else’. I have been looking for several days now, and if anything have confused myself more.

Here goes,

We have a small amateur radio station and are looking for a PC that will be used solely to, live stream a video feed, save a copy of the feed itself and is capable of rendering out hour long segments of the saved videos using Sony Vegas (This wouldn’t be done at the same time as streaming.) The stream is a 1080p source that would be down scaled to 720p and have a watermark added. Also being about to have 2 monitors would be a huge positive.

From reading the system requirements of the hardware and software we will be using, it ‘seemed’ an Intel I5 or AMD equivalent would be a good starting point, but then I read somewhere that an Intel I7 would be a better choice, due to the advantage of ‘Hyper-Treading’. Also read that the graphics card isn’t that important as the CPU is doing most of the work for streaming video.

Would anyone be so kind as to suggest a pre-built system from OverClockers, or as I’ve seen on other threads here, a list of the components that would manage this? Also do OverClockers offer a service to build them?

As I mentioned, this is its only task it will be doing and I’d prefer not to spend far more than is necessary.

I hope this type of post is allowed, and would really appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you

Andy

Hey and welcome :D

Have you got the audio / video capturing equipment and streaming software already? If so could you list?

Also watch kind of budget are you looking to stay within?

Hey,

Thank you for the fast reply :)

I haven't settled on anything yet, I have been experimenting, with mixed results, using Open Broadcaster and XSplit as the software. A Web Cam might be the only option for capturing the video, but a very good quality should do the job.

In terms of budget, I don't really know what I need so I'm thinking it'll cost what it costs. I've been using gaming PC's as a guide but do I need that much power? I don't know :/

Thanks again.

Andy

You need something between an AMD 8320 and an Intel 4930k in terms of cost. An overclocked 8320 is unlikely to be slower than a 4770k in terms of encoding and capture, but will be slower in most non Mantle games. As far as streaming is concerned, an 8 core Piledriver chip will get much less bogged down than an i5. You really, really want 8+ threads. Since you give no idea of budget, it's impossible to make specific recommendations.

Hey :)

I don't really have a budget (Well within reason obviously)

From your suggestion of AMD Piledriver I found this one, which has the option of an 8 core 4.0GHz processor and I added a Solid State Drive as well as a second hard drive and it comes to £642.98.

That is leaving it at 8GB of RAM and the cheapest graphics card on that list.

Upping the memory to 16GB and to the most expensive graphics card takes it to £1032.95

Either of those 2 figures is fine if it will do the job.

If you are going to be using a web cam I highly recommend the Logitech C920. Capable of 1080p video (if required). I use 4 of them for live events (@720p) and they and their drivers are perfect.
Microsoft's LifeCam Studio is runner up, but their drivers get a little shaky when adding more than 1.
How many Cams are you thinking of?
If a web cam is your source input then neither OBS or Xsplit will push an i5-4670k. Both those programs compress their output anyway so editing won't be too harsh either.
You will only need a huge CPU - i7-4770k / 4930k if you are going to game and stream at the same time.

8GB, again, will be fine if you are streaming seperately from gaming. Double it up if you are doing both at the same time.

If you are usings Xsplit then it would be a good idea to go with an intel CPU with its iGPU because it can use Quick Sync to encode your local copy, taking more pressure off the CPU.
Also the Instel 8/9 series chipsets can power 3 screen form the motherboard, removing the need for descrete graphics.
Make sure you save as an MP4 format because the newer Vegas / Premier Pro don't have (didn't pay for) the licenses to edit FLV files.

Have you got microphones / audio equipment already?
