I am looking for a new power supply for the following system with some thought towards future proofing for Crossfire and possible additional Hard Drives.

3770k
Z77X-UD5H
16GB ram
X-Fi XtremeMusic
HD 7970
1 SSD
1 HDD
1 DVD-RW
2 CPU Fans
4 Case fans

I am thinking 800W or 850W is sufficient. Would like modular if possible but more importantly want one that is known to be rock solid. Ideally less than £150 but can go to £200 if necessary.

You only need 650W for that system really possibly less. It's only if you're going crossfire in the future that you'll need more.

That looks good, any reason you recommend it over others?

2 reasons.

1: it is very well known that corsair psus are among the best in terms of quality.
2: it is fully modular! only use the wires you need so you wont have the rest cluttered at the bottom of your case.

That said if you are considering crossfire in the future then:

YOUR BASKET
1 x xfx pro 850w core edition '80 plus bronze' power supply £94.99
total : £105.49 (includes shipping : £8.75).

semi-modular but the only non-detachable cable that you're not going to use is the 4-pin cpu cable (you'll use the 8)

thats not modular.

this one is and cheaper - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=ca-000-xf&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1497

So for £150 this is the best I can get basically?

Sorry but no, its a poor recommendation. It is about £50 too much. I think the other guy meant this:

XFX make some of the best PSU's, the 1000w and the 1250w are basically the best PSU's you can get.

Pretty sure the fan does not even come on with my 1250watt... :)

Thanks both, they look very similar so I guess easy mistake to make. Those Black Edition Pros look very nice but I don't think I can justify the price. Is the XFX 850W XXX that is on sale actually the same as those in the review links? It's hard to be sure.

If the XFX 850 XXX and the Corsair Professional Series AX850 were both free and you could choose one which would you have?

The corsair so I could sell it to someone for £150 who thought it was the best PSU in the world. Then I could buy the XFX and keep £50, i'd also have a better PSU.
