Recommend a processor, RAM and motherboard for friend?

He's budget is £200
He wants it for; gaming: CoD4 (With me;) + World of Warcraft
Video Editing (Sony vegas + After effects)
Graphics Design (Photoshop)

He wants quick render times, Good FPS in World of Warcraft as Ive heard it is a CPU based game?
He's current gpu: ATI Radeon 5670

Sorry I didnt know where to post as it consists of motherboard, processor and ram advice.

Anyway, do you need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, or operating system?

If you do need any of these, it is going to be quite tricky to get everything in £200. Could you push a little bit further?
 
Nope, Hes already got all those things just an upgrade basically, And we have other means of acquiring an OS if you catch my drift? ;)

What motherboard, RAM and PSU does he currently have? Could you reuse the HDD and DVD drive? Do you want a new case as well?

Yup of course, Nope, we've just bought a new case recently,
We can use the current HDD and DVD Drive.
Motherboard: MSI 870-C45
Processor: AMD Athlon II X3 425 - 2.7Ghz
RAM: Samsung 1GB + 2GB 1333Mhz + Crucial 2x2GB Kit

What PSU does the computer have ATM??

I would get a Phenom II X4 955BE or 965BE or a Phenom II X6 1055T or 1090T.

Also,the RAM arrangement means it will not be running in dual channel and hence will hamper performance.

I have a Core i3 2100 myself. It is a great CPU for gaming but rubbish for video encoding with the applications your friend is using. My old Q6600 overclocked to 3GHZ beats it.

The Phenom II X6 1090T will be the best overall upgrade.

For Sony Vegas 10 and many other video encoding applications like HandBrake only something like a Core i5 2400 will be faster:

Compare the scores in the second article to the first.

In Adobe Photoshop CS4 it will be a decent upgrade:

In most games,the Core i3 2100 will be faster. However,one of my mates runs WoW fine at 1920X1080 with an HD5850 1GB and a 2.5GHZ Q9300. The Q9300 has lower singled threaded performance when compared to a Phenom II X6 1090T. When compared to the Athlon II X3 425, in lightly threaded applications you will gain 900MHZ in clockspeed and of course the Phenom II X6 gains 1MB of L3 cache per core.

Another thing! The Phenom II X6 will a drop-in upgrade. If you get a new motherboard you will need to re-install the operating system.

If you have an OEM copy of Windows you will need to buy a new copy.

Have you tried unlocking the Athlon II X3 425??

You might be able to get it unlocked to an Athlon II X4 or a Phenom II X4.

Yeah, ive unlocked it to a Phenom II X4 but it becomes unstable and the pc freezes. Im not sure why, Might be PSU or Cooling. Its on stock btw
 
Not sure how to mate :P Ive never tried overclocking before, wouldnt know where to start. If I had a guide then I would be able to
