Hey all!

I have very limited space and a soundbar would fit perfectly on my desk. Im not looking at spending a lot of money though, sub £50, I would be prepaired to spend a little more if it really is worth it though. Who out there uses a soundbar on their rig? can you recommend it?

any advice would be appreciated

Thanks! :)

How limited is limited?

Could you not even accommodate a pair of Creative T20 speakers?

I'd buy those over a cheap soundbar, but if you really are limited to nothing other than a soundbar, then LG LAS260 for £65 is the bare minimum I would consider. A £50 soundbar is not worth buying.

I have a 1 meter wide room/cupboard i am trying to convert into an office so im trying to utilise the space as best I can, I figured a soundbar would utilise the space better but I guess there is always space either sid of the monitor, if not then theres always space just behind the monitor! :)

At the moment I guess the better option is the T20s but does anyone use a soundbar they can recommend?

not going to need a lot for a 1mtr room, how about the jvc bluetooth stereo speaker set.

hide them anywhere and only £20

Awsome! thanks for all the suggestions guys! I have done some measuring and if i go for 2.0 system then they can be no higher than 200mm, looking at the creative website it says the dimentions of the T20s is:

Dimensions (H x W x D)
Satellite: 88.0 x 143.0 x 230.0 mm (3.46 x 5.63 x 9.06 inches)

Going by this, the hight is 88mm and the depth is 230mm, I suspect that this is wrong as that would make it pretty flat! :) I suspect the hight is 230mm which is a shame as it wont fit my desk. Can anyone make a suggestion? I would be prepaired to go higher than £50 if its worth it, Certainly no higher than £100, but as close to £50 as possible :)

EDIT: LOL! I just checked a couple of those speakers out and realise you were toying with me!

Yes, they've got the H W D mixed up. Fancy doing that on their own website. They need to employ people who know what they're doing. :p

If those dimensions were correct, they'd look very odd indeed! Width is 88mm. Depth 143mm. Height is 230mm.

There's a few studio monitor speakers with 3" woofers that hover around the 20cm mark. Some more, some less. M Audio AV32 are 19cm in height and £80. The best choice I would say, taking into consideration sound quality, size and price. Others are around the £100 mark.

Anything cheaper and it's a struggle to get something worth having. Creative T10 are under 20cm, but they're not a patch on the T20, which are easily worth the extra over the T10. If height were not an issue, they would not get a recommendation at all, unless if £40 were the absolute limit. Incidentally, Creative again mixed up the dimensions for the T10 on their site; having them at 137mm in height and 194mm deep. highly unlikely!

Lets just hope creative have more attention to detail with their speakers! :D

Thanks for your help Marsman, Its a shame the T20s wouldnt fit, but all being said im not a massive "audiofile" so im sure I wouldnt notice the difference between the T20 and M Audio speakers anyway! :)

EDIT: Just looked at the speakers and they look great! However, the power switch is at the back which is a problem, because of my space restrictions I wont be able to get to the back unless I take it off the shelf. I dont like to leave things on if im not using them so will probably just switch off at mains instead.

You don't have to be an 'audiophile' to appreciate the difference between something like the T20 and the AV32. I think you do need to be able to appreciate good sound though, which is not necessarily the same thing.

Audiophile is a term that's too often used. It really only applies to those who obsess over getting the best sound quality they can and are willing to pay ever increasing amounts of money to get it.

There was a thread a few years ago where someone was asking whether to get T40 or AV40. A guy replied who had the T40 and his dad had the AV40. His dad was more into music so thought the AV40's were better. His son not so much and said he thought both were fairly equal.

Probably similar case with the T20 and AV32, but with the T20 being out of the equation, that leaves the T10, which really aren't going to be a patch on the AV32, even if they are half the cost.

Switch on the back is inconvenient, but it's par the course with these type of speakers. For speakers with power switch on the front, you'd be looking at PC ones only and limited maybe to the Creative T10 (due to height restrictions).

I suppose I better mention Bose Companion 2 III, just because they fit the criteria. They are under 20cm high, have volume control power switch and are less than £100, although £10 more than the AV32.

Bose speakers are somewhat marmite though. Some people like them, some think they are overpriced and better sound quality can be had elsewhere for the same money. I'm in the latter camp, so I'm somewhat loathe to bring them up. I'd certainly suggest the T20 over them for £30 less, if it weren't for the height issue.

Thanks so much for your explanation Marsman. Maybe Audiophile was the wrong word to use, what I meant was unless I could compare the 2 speakers side by side im not going to be able to tell the difference. :)

As it is I have another thread open which may have come up with a solution so I can use the T20s. This is the thread if you are interested: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/custom-computer-desk.18792860/

Thanks again
