Recommend a Tourist Spot

Hey,

Since passing my test and picking up a car, I've taken to driving all over the place just for the hell of it. I'm living in Cardiff, so far the furthest I've gone is up to Birmingham, but been to plenty of places. Anyway, the point of this thread.

I'm looking for some good tourist spots to travel to, not too far afield, London is about as far as I'm willing to go. I only have the day to get there, see the sights and get back again.

So, tell me a few good spots to visit and why. Preferably not too expensive and not really looking for funfairs and the like, I'm too old for all that.

The Tower Of London= pure win.
Take a day out in London?

Go round the castles of Wales: they are truly stunning!

I always recommend places of beauty and historical importance and cultural importance for our great nation.

you could go to South Shropshire for the country views and pub grub or to Bath for the Roman/Georgian remains. Both should be doable in a day with time to linger
