Hi all,

Please can you recommend a TV card to me? I'd like one that lets me tune analogue or digital, both at the same time or one or the other in Vista Media Centre (64 bit).

No Hauppague :)

cheers

i've got a Compro DVB T-500. its an analogue+digital tuner and it works perfectly with media centre in Vista. just bare in mind that the Compro software is rubbish, and you'll need a program called "compro2aw" to use the remote in media centre.

I have a Hauppage HVR-1300, which I got a couple of years ago, which serves me very well.

It receives analogue and digital transmissions and is an internal card (PCI) so doesn't take up any USB ports.

I've just checked the website and there are quite a few newer models available now (http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/products/prods_hvr_internal.html) [This shouldn't be a competitor right?]

Sometimes the reception can be a bit dodgy but I don't know if this is just inteference or something to do with the card.

I just bought the hauppauge s2 card and plugged my sat cable in. Works like a dream. I am running xp. Are there any good software recommendations as I notice the bundled one is pants

It's not hybrid, but I have the Compro E700 and find that works very well with Vista 64 and media center. I ditched the control that came with it and bought a MCE remote, which is perfect for controlling media center.

I have a Freecom DVB-T USB stick which serves me well. Bundled Arcsoft software is one of few that actually sorts channel numbers by Logical Channel Number (LCN) which is something I find hard believing why not all DVB software include it.
Only issue is that the EPG cache needs purging occasionally but its small gripe for a simple but very friendly interface.
Its DVB only though I dont see much point getting analogue anymore.
From what I have researched, my next would be Hauppauge NovaT-500 which has dual DVB tuners as I do wish I could record two channels at the same time, which the Freecom doesn't.

Well get yourself one of the Hauppauge cards even if you don't have media centre.
They are good cards I don't know why you are mocking them. I've had a HVR1100 and it is one of my best buys.

Check out the HVR3000.

Having vista business I dont have media center, so a card with good software is vital for me. I bought a Compro E700 and the software was absolutely naff, it would always crash atleast 3-4 times whilst using it for barely an hour! Even the compro tech support couldn't help me (used latest drivers/software). Got a refund in the end.

I wish nebula electronics would have made a 64 bit driver for their PCI card so I could have used that as the software on that was awesome.

Well, in the past I have nearly thrown the thing in the bin, but....

I am watching TV on a Terratec 2400iDT and it works so well with Vista 64 ultimate media center its unreal!

I can even leave it to record by itself and come back and not find:

a) the PC sat there looking stupid having not hibernated after a recording, or....
b) the PC deciding not to record at all

Big Thumbs up!

Any specific need for analogue? I have a Hauppauge Nova-T 500 which is dual digital tuners. Watch/record two digital streams at once with minimal system resources used, and works perfectly with Media Centre.

If you do need the analogue, then the HVR-1300 is the one to go for. It has a hardware MPEG-2 encoder, so it will do the necessary conversion of the analogue stream to a digital file. But it will still be an inferior image compared to the digital, if you're using it for TV.

i am not mocking it. it works great. the software is unstable though. i am thinking an os upgrade is on its way

Get a Hauppauge then!

Had a PVR250 for 5 years that has worked flawlessly through MCE2004, 2005 into Vista. Upgraded to a S2 and HD 2 weeks ago and equally as good.

You do not have to use Hauppauge software or even MCE to view Live TV. Loads of other MCE equivalent software out there.

Yea....thats the point...what ones

Re the analogue signal, some of us still need it due to digital reception where we live being utter pants, Personally I live in one of the areas that isn't getting switched over untill 2012, and despite being told that the digi signal round here is getting regular upgrades, I can still only just get BBC news 24, and absolutely nothing else! Even the analogue signal isn't that great here, especially on ITV, and ceefax is nothing but a black screen for me!

Looking at the Compro VideoMate Vista T750F for my Virgin Media box.

Anyone have any off Compros cards not really heard off the brand
