I've replaced my broken HTC Touch with a Galaxy S2 and it's my first android phone and im absolutely loving it but there are a few things i want and i could do with some suggestions.

I would like:

1) A good battery widget as unless i'm being immensely thick the tiny battery status at the top is a bit small for my liking
2) Recommendations for best browser on an android phone
3) A good quality digital clock widget

Also any just general recommended apps/widgets and any tips to get the most from my phone would do please.

I would also like to know this, as I just got my new S2 yesterday as well and am very happy with it :).

Would just like to add I would also like a decent case and screen protector to get and where can I get one from?

1) Minamalistic Text
2) Boat Browser or Dolphin, try both
3) I use Minamalistic Text for time, looks nice. But for a digital one not sure, try MClock?

Don't bother with a screen protector in my opinion, and this for case:
I would recommend the official leather slip case, it's all I use. I keep it in the case when the phone's in my pocket, or any other time it needs some protection. That way I get all the protection I need without ruining the look of the phone :p

The only thing is if I drop the phone when it's not in the case, but I trust myself enough not to drop it :p

The slip case also looks and feels great, it's very thin and has a high quality feel. You can use it to rest the phone upon on a desk also if you're worried about scratchs on the back or the camera lens.

You both would be better off asking these questions in the S2 thread, S2 accessories thread and android apps thread though.

1) I don't use one, so I can't really help here, sorry.

2) The default Samsung is the fastest (apart from Opera Mini) it is hardware accelerated. Opera Mobile is quite good to use though and has some nice usability features, so it's worth checking out.

3) I'll let someone else do this, I don't really use a clock widget, I have the time in the notification bar and on the lock screen ;)

Other apps and tips:

Airdroid - Message via your computers browser and more!

Emulators can be downloaded for free here

Swiftkey and Swype keyboards are worth checking out. This lets you specify which keyboard is used for portrait and landscape, if you're into that kind of thing. Please note, it also requires root access.

Chrome to Phone - You can send links to your phone from your desktop using the browser extensions.

3G Watchdog - Tracks mobile data.

ES File Explorer/File Expert are good file managers.

Quickpic - Best gallery app.

Dropbox

Any.DO - Awesome to do list that syncs with Google Tasks.

PowerAMP or Player Pro are very nice paid Music apps.

Tasker / Llama - Automate various tasks on your phone

SMS Backup & Restore - Can use this to schedule SMS backups to a XML file and then restore them easily.

SMS Backup+ - Does the above, but to your Gmail account and also creates labels for them! Makes searching through texts easy too. Allows backing up of call logs too.

General tips:

You can hold and then drag the notification bar at the top to adjust brightness! (Auto brightness must be off)

You can see your clipboard in a text field if you tap the blue pointer and choose clipboard!

Hope that helps........ ;)
