As title. A friend was asking to recommend him one, as apparently theres millions out there. I dont have a clue, so i was wondering if anyone could help? :)

Thanks!

He sould rather go for PHP, much more available as most Windows servers have PHP aswell. Most Linux servers do not have ASP meaning you'd just about have to go with a Windows host for ASP. Unless he's not planning to make public scripts?

What complete and utter tosh.

asp.NET would be a much better programming language to learn imo.

I find the MSpress books really easy to get through, great if you're starting from scratch since they cover all the essential basics.
Only thing they dont really teach you is good practices in coding (like when to use less or more of something for eg) but thats stuff you pick up with experience really.

I got the .net for dummies book and its not bad. Gets the basic concepts introduced and there is more than enough to get a little application up and running. In the past I would have scoffed at the dummies books but as a starter and a guide (enough to give you a feel and determine if its right you and for you to move on) they are good.

At the back there are then recommended other books to move onto for more detailed ASP programming and javascript depending upon how high end you want to go.
