Am going building a new rig in time for bf3
just wondering what people opinions on parts I've picked out and am ready to order. I will be watercooling the system but haven't picked everything out yet so have excluded it from the list

thanks

Case: Corsair 800D
Mobo: MSI Z68A-GD65 B3
CPU : i7 2600K (will be oc'ing to around 4.6Ghz)
RAM : Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz
PSU : corsair hx 850W ATX
GFX : 2x Sapphire 6950 2GB TOXIC [In crossfire,flashed to 6970]
SSD : 2x OCZ Agility 3 60GB 2.5" SATA-3 [In RAID 0]
HDD : 2x Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s[In RAID 0]

The goal of the machine is to be able to run BF3 on top specs

Go with the i5K. The i7 has hyperthreading but games dont support it. Put the £60 saved back in the pot ;)

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=287

That link shows what i mean about the CPUs. That site also compares GPUs, SSDs etc. Click on the GPU 2011 link if you'd like to compare benchmarks in single and SLI or Xfire setups too.

The crucial M4 SSDs are often spec'd as they seem to be more reliable than others.

Good luck with the build. Hope my pennies worth and the link helps

My only worry in your list is this SSD : 2x OCZ Agility 3
Don't just take my word for it just, google for agility3 or vertex3 issues...These seem to be unreliable at the moment....

Thats really good link for comparisons, thanks

@Levirginien thanks, i've noticed a lot of poor reviews online , might have to reconsider

do you really want two SSD's in RAID 0? a single SSD is already incredibly fast, and ive heard that in RAID 0 you dont get the performance boost you would expect (i think it was one of the mods that said this, however im very happy to be proved wrong here) i'd go for a single 128GB SSD (preferably the crucial M4)

also, putting mechanical HDD's for file storage in RAID0 is not a good idea. one problem with either hard drive and its goodbye files

last thing i'll point out that hasnt been mentioned already is the Asrock Z68 extreme 4 gen3. i would take that over the MSI motherboardany day of the week

case and RAM choice are great, and the PSU is a good choice if a little overpriced (i'd take the OCZ Z series 850W 80+ gold)

Yeah obv raid 0 isnt a great back up solution, but it more for just media files that ive downloaded. something like RAID 1 / 5 would be more suitable for that, I will be using my current rig with OC'd q6600 as a file server, It has 6 TB of space so I'll be backing up everything onto that daily

Other than the fact it has gen 3 why would you recommend the asrock over the mobo i've choosen ( a G3 version is available for it also)
