Looking for a new Drill and impact driver to replace my old DeWalt set, not looking to spend a huge amount as they only get used for general diy stuff. Ive been looking at the erbauer set from screwfix as they seem to get decent reviews, or do i spend more and go Makita? These are the two sets im looking at

or does anyone recommend anything else ? thanks

Does it have to be brushless? There’s a Dewalt set for £150 that Screwfix do that’s highly rated on here though not the biggest of batteries.

I’ve a few Erbauer things and they’re alright and as you say the reviews are always good. I’d be tempted by the Makita though just for the bigger batteries and better aftermarket support if you need it. Plus a wider range of other cordless tools you can buy bare on ebay.

Erbauer are pretty average.

If you want something decent I'd go for DeWalt, Makita or Bosch. I chose DeWalt as the balance and feel suited me best.

I use one of these

It has been brilliant. It eats bricks and masonry. Hunt around and you will find them at a good price. A decent drill is a mainstay of all good DIY tool kits. Buy a decent one and it will last you years. Toolstop has them in for about £170

We use these at work. Good drills and survive being thrown about and used in the rain, havent killed one yet! No experience of the hammer as used for Metal drilling but nothing compaired to a rotary hammer drill.

screwfix had some great deals on de-walt not so long ago, I bought myself a drill for £99, also got a 1/2" impact driver at work for not a lot more. get regularly used and the batteries are still lasting as long as they did when I first got them.

I have the Makita LXT 18v drill, impact driver and grinder. All great bits of kit.

I have the Stanley Fatmax 18v that comes with two batteries and can say I am very happy with it and it only cost me 70 smackers.

Im the same. I imagine the other bits of kit at the same price still do all the same functions but haven't used them.

Im particularly impressed by how long the 3AH battery lasts on my LXT drill & impact driver

Did yours come with the 1.2amp batteries ?? ? if so then you have the old model which is a few years old - The new one (12 months + old) has 2 amp batteries and battery condition light on base at front. - There is nothing wrong with it as I got one just because it was on offer at Homebase for £46 - I have given mine a real bashing over last few weeks and they stood up to every thing.
Under rated in my opinion as they are made by same company that owns DeWalt and look very similar.

Is it for home use?

I got a Worx Drill Drive, with 2 additional batteries then just bought their impact driver (They all share batteries).

Perfect for the odd jobs around the house etc

I had the network 2Ah batteries so I can assume the newer model. After 12months of owning the drill and only light usage, the chuck started to go faulty and a drill bit got welded in. Stanley support was SHOCKING they had no service centres near me and the support helpline said the Chuck was consumable therefore they would not replace under warranty. Tried to contact Homebase but they said it was over there 12 month period. Ended up selling on eBay for parts.

I now have a Bosch Professional GSB 18 V-EC (granted at double the cost+) and so far its been great and I have service centres near by should anything go wrong. I also have a Ryobi Impact driver which has been a solid unit.

Not sure on the long term usage, but they offer 3 year warranty if you register on their website. I got myself one of these a couple of weeks ago and i'm really impressed with the quality for the money.

I managed to pickup the kit with 2x 1.5ah batteries for £99 from elsewhere although that's gone back up in price now. When it comes to replacing my drill i'll probably buy the drill from there with the bigger batteries.

They do a bare combi drill as well so you don't need to buy batteries with both units.

The Bosch green cordless with the keyless chuck can undo itself as the drill rotation break when you take your finger off is savage (immediate). You need to make sure it really clicks on tightening.

Other than that the bosch has been great and the batteries are still good 6+ years since having it.
