I'm going to build my own steam machine for the living room/bedroom. The CPUs in the ones you can buy made seem crap which could save me a few quid.

1. Why is it okay to have a crappy cpu in one of these?
2. Can you please recommend me a crappy cpu for mine?

Cheers :D

Depends on budget really. Might want to look at dual boot over just pure steam os at this time. While games are getting released you lose around 35% performance with linux due to the drivers/game not being developed completely.

The other option is if you've already for a beefy pc stored in the house you can then use steams own steaming system. Then you can go for really low budget stuff.

Driver hacks have to be implemented for each title.

It's easy to make 1 benchmark run well. But there's thousands of games and they can't even keep up with the Windows platform. Scary how much performance relies on driver.

That was the article I saw Joey. Its a little bit like the chicken and the egg. What came first?

People won't go to SteamOS as its not developed as much, but it won't get as much attention from game/driver developers till its widely used.....
