Recommend essential PS3 games?

Hey there,
I've been out of the loop for a while with the whole gaming scene as I'm at uni and ended up leaving my PS3 at home. Last game I bought which I got well into was GT5 last Christmas!

Now as Chrimbo is coming up again, I want to get a few games to play over the holidays, which are quite cheap and easy to pick up and play. Prefer to buy some used games online, so can you guys give me some recommendations for essential games over the past 2-3 years? Also heard about these HD downloads you can do e.g. Splinter Cell, Resi Evil etc. these worth it? and which ones are best?
Budget is around 5-7/8 quid, so let me know what you got!

Plenty variety of cheap games there

Just been where you are since I got my first PS3 and wanted to try a variety of games on the cheap!

Batman AA - Brilliant
Resident Evil 5 - Enjoyable, lacked "wow" factor for me
FF 13 - Genius
Uncharted 2 - Brilliant
Dead Space 2 - Likely to make me break my controller in panic sooner or later...

Also got NFS Shift and Lost Planet 2 but they haven't grabbed me that much to be honest.

Metal Gear Solid 4. Only completed this yesterday, and the story is just amazing! Haven't played 2/3 just 1 and 4. Simply amazing.

Assassins Creed 2 (I've just picked it up for £10 new in Sainsburys).
Wipeout HD/Fury
Uncharted 1 and 2
God of War 3
Killzone 1 and 2

Definitely pick up Uncharted 1 and 2. I haven't played the 3rd yet so can't comment. I also really enjoyed the Killzone 1 and 2. Assassins Creed 2 is a cracking game as well.

id say infamous 1 and 2, 2 can be played alone really

uncharted 2 and 3, unchated 1 may seem dated now and its not a continuing story, just the characters but all 3 would be good!

god of war 1 2 and 3

and the PSP ones are out on ps3 now too!

killzone 3 is fairly good, playing heavy rain at the moment for the first time, its ok an aquired taste but seems great!

in terms of download games id go for dead nation, super stardust HD and Wipeout HD/fury (runs full 1080p and looks great)

and aload of 3rd party games like batman and portal 2! you will be spoilt for choice!
