I have a X1900XTX Toxic where the temperatures are running a lot higher than normal. 65-75 Celsius idle and when playing a game temperatures reach in excess of 115 Celsius and after that the computer obviously restarts. As soon as I realized that these were the temperatures I immediately under clocked the card so that it sits in the low 60s on a desktop and haven't played games since. After a bit of thinking I have concluded the problem is either the thermal paste is gone shoddy.
It is a Sapphire card after all who are infamous for their erroneous cards and lack of thermal paste. Or the water cooler is dying. The water cooler is also acting up deciding to go in racket mode every now and again with a random high pitched squeal like a mouse on helium lasting any where from 10-50 minutes. Very annoying. So I think the best course of action is to get a new cooler and put on a lick of new paste.
I was thinking of Arctic Silver 5 paste and a Arctic Cooling Accelero X2 Cooler (X1800/X1900 Series).
Would these be the best ones to get? Or are there better ones. Price isn't really an issue but anything under 75 euro (50 pounds) should get me around the block at least twice. Also what would be appropriate to remove the paste that is already on. Thanks.
