Sound is important to me. Currently have my pc plugged into an atmos amp but moving house so that is going in the living room and PC in the study so need a sound solution.

Budget would be up to £500. Do I need a separate sound card? My mother board is pretty premium, can't remember which one exactly but it was part of a £1500 build 3 years ago that didn't skrimp on anything. 95% of what I do on my PC is gaming.

Thanks in advance.

For £500 I wouldn't go for 5.1. You'll need 5 speakers, a subwoofer, and a AVR. Possibly a soundcard if you don't already have DTS Live encoding.

I would recommend something like a £250 AVR, and Q Acoustic speakers. Probably get two stereo speakers, so you have 4.0 and that should be sufficient.

So thinking about it this afternoon I might just put my current AVR and speakers in the PC room and my old one in the living room. Currently I have my monitor plugged in via DP and use HDMI into a tv as a second monitor which gives me the sound. Assuming I'm just using my gaming monitor how do I get the sound into my AVR since it only has HDMI input. Using HDMI is out of the question since I need higher resolution and refresh rates than HDMI can handle.
