I have around £70 to spend for a new card.

I will be wanting to game on a resolution of 1680*1050. I would like to play all current games at decent settings. I also have a 37" LCD I would like to use for movie playback, I very much doubt I'd be using it for gaming (have my PS3 for that).

Recommend away, budget may stretch if persuaded to although I will have to wait longer if thats the case.

Thanks. =) Merry Christmas

Edit - Hmm thought I posted in the graphics card section... Sorry!

What about the Powercolour HD4670

It has the following :
Graphics Engine - RADEON HD4670
Video Memory - 512MB GDDR3
Engine Clock - 750MHz
Memory Clock - 1000MHz x 2
Memory Interface - 128bit
DirectX Support - 10.1
Bus Standard - PCI-E 2.0

The clock speeds are only slightly lower than the HD4870... At £70 am I missing something about this card?

The HD4870 also has a 256 bit memory interface. Don't know if that makes much of a difference...so I guess twice the throughput if it needs it.

The 4870 is significantly faster, having 800 stream processors instead of 320, a 256 bit memory interface and GDDR5 running at 3.6ghz or something ridiculous.

But for your uses, a 4670 or an 8800GT would suffice :)

At 1680x1050 in some games a 4670 will just about be playable. Think its better suited for gaming at 1280x1024. Probably a 8800gt will be a better bet or a hd3870.

Get the 4670 1gb, from HIS I think. It's got 1gb and will play most games on medium/max settings at your resolution. It's the one I'm going to get for my brother, since its mid range, fast, OC'able, cool and has 1024mb :P
