Hi all

I am looking to replace my case. Budget is £100 max inc delivery, no PSU required. I want a reasonably understated but smart case. Preferably Aluminium, silver or black. Thinking Lian Li PC60 as a rough guide. Key things I am looking for are good ventilation, smooth metal edges (have slashed myself to pieces on cheap cases so many times), and maybe rails for mounting cd drives. Window would be cool, but not too fussed.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks.

Yup the pc-60 with window would suit your needs perfectly.
£92.80

PC-7+ is also worthy of mention too.

I would say the PC7 is possibly more suited than the PC60. Either that or Akasa 62.

Edit; Damn that was good stock answer wasn't it. We really need another good mid range case to throw into the mix so we can stop recommending the PC7+ or Akasa62 don't we.

Akasa eclipse 62 just got mine yesterday simply the best case ive ever owned
acres of room great cooling and subject to taste looks great.

Zen, PC7+ or Eclipse. Yeh we do seem to recommend them a lot, maybe they are good.

PC7+ gets my vote all the time over the PC60, personally I consider it the superior case and for less money it makes it a no brainer for me.

What exactly is the difference between Lian Li PC60+ and PC7+? Both look like the same basic chassis. Also, does anyone know if they come with any cd drive cover plates in the box?

Thanks for the help.

For sheer looks and great cooling-Any mid/full tower Thermaltake case
For Space-Akasa Eclipse

All of the Thermaltakes I have used using exclusively air cooling have ran hotter by a fair margin than a similar setup in a Eclipse. Looks are entirely personal as I for one do not like the look of the Eclipse or any of Thermaltakes cases.

The PC60 has a rear 80mm fan, the PC7+II has a rear 120mm fan.

This leads to the PC7+II being the better cooling case for less money, due to them sharing the same basic chassis and front panel there is no difference in quality between the two cases.

Hard drives are held a little better in the PC60 but it does not justify the difference in price for a case that has worse cooling. The PC60 also has a removable motherboard tray but due to the layout of the case this is not necessarily needed as the PC7+II is very easy to build in even when full. :)

Due to this it makes the PC7+II a much better buy, it is the key to why it is so popular as it is so cheap for what you actually get.

Just seen a Lian Li PC65 on sale. What is the difference between PC60 and 65? Also, what's the cpu vent thing on the PC60Plus like? Is it worth having?

The vent is not worth having unless you plan on running a pentium 3 up to maybe at a push a late Socket A system.

Any PC6* case needs to be at less money than the PC7+II to be worth buying in my eyes, they have not aged well or been updated to the same level as the once inferior PC7.

Thanks Hooooop! Why is it only worth using with P3 or Socket A? I'm running Athlon 64X2 4200+ so guess not worth it.

BTW, does anyone know if these cases come with a an aluminium cover plate to match the rest of the case?

I would not count on it, the PC7+II certainly does not and I have not used the recent PC60 cases to be able to comment. :)

The ducting system is a throwback to older motherboards and processors that required it, just an out dated 'feature'.

Also, the name is Yewen just the admins are having a laugh. :(

Thanks for all the advice. I think I will go for the PC7+. Now just need to decide on black or silver...

You had to ask. :p

The black is easier to scratch and be noticeable when compared to the silver case, although the brushed effect in the right light looks about the same on both cases.

Go with what your desk / monitor / mouse / keyboard looks like, or what is in stock. :)

Silver for a PC7+ gets my vote though, just think it looks right and shows off the fact it is an aluminium case to everyone who looks at it regardless of PC knowledge.

Haha, it's ironic that I just ordered a black one before reading that message!

Probably a good time for another gratuitous viewing of what your baby could look like...
