Recommend me a cheap PSU?

hehe thx for the pics
interesting cooler, copper top down :) nice
u could prolly strap a 120mm on it real easy if the fan ever goes
uve inspired me to do a cheap build sometime, lots spare parts here

Yeah hehe, it fits on the motherboard with push-pins as well. No backplate. Very odd for a cooler this size and weight. And I could do that :) However I would probably just remove the fan alltogether. It still keeps the CPU plenty cool with the fan unplugged, partly cos of the huge heatsink, and partly cos the two exhaust fans are so close to the heatsink.

All i'm going to say is go for it! But don't buy unbranded parts if you can avoid it. I got the parts so cheap because I bought some spares or repairs bits on a hunch that I could get them working, and I bought a dead GPU which I re-flowed. I also called in a few favours here and there, traded chocolate bars for the optical drive, and I already owned the case, and the hard drive was robbed from my dad's old PC, but all parts are a good brand:

CPU - Intel
MB - Gigabyte
RAM - Samsung
CPU HSF - ASUS
GPU - Nvidia/ASUS
PSU - OCZ
HDD - Seagate
Case - Antec

Let me know if you don't know what re-flowing is and I will explain the technique briefly. :p

Can't believe you sold chocolate bars for a DVD-RW :p
As my ex would say... Waste of chocolate :D

I gave my mate 8 mars bars for it quite a long time ago (before I built my sig rig even) :) which translates as £2 (they were in a 4 for £1 offer) :p
I already have err *checks* 5 spare optical drives, but none of them were DVD-RW.
I took the DVD drive out of the machine now anyway xD

No chocolate was harmed/wasted in the making of this computer
Cos I assume he ate them :p

Do you find the Corexstream has a high pitched noise, especially when putting your ear to it, even when the PC isn't booted?

I only noticed a fairly loud and irregular high pitched whine when starting Borderlands 2. That seemed to come from the PSU.

There is no such noise right now though. It has been folding on the GPU and CPU for several days.

It isn't silent by any stretch of the imagination, but it seems quiet enough for a cheap PSU.

I have a cheapy PSU on my computer build, I seem to have no problems. But I have been told to get a better make, which I will do soon.

Gah yes please do, a poor PSU can quite literally be the death of a PC (that said so can a good one if you are unlucky!) However good ones have all sorts of protectino built in to stop them frying stuff, or at least they are supposed to.

I used a cheapo PSU for litterally 10 minutes and then smoke, followed by the tips of small flames, accompanied by a horrible smell of burning and burst capacitors was blowing out the back. True story :p (only in an old Pentium D rig luckily, and very luckily it didn't kill the PC :p)

However I also have a 400W EZCOOL PSU in a Pentium 4 rig that has been going strong for almost 10 years.

Do PSU's die for the same reasons as motherboards and GPU's? (the solder/other connecting materials fracturing etc) and the only reason people dont stick them in the oven is cos... Well... that would be stupid? :p

Just upgraded the 8800GTS 320MB to an XFX Radeon HD4890 Black Edition 1GB. The cost? The 8800GTS and some waffles. :D
Swapping the HD4890 for an Nvidia equivelant soon. Probably a GTX260 Golden Sample.
